National Tree Day started in 1996 and
has grown into Australia’s largest community tree-planting and nature care
event. It’s a call to action for all Australians to get their hands dirty and
give back to nature.
Representatives from Mt Gravatt Environment Group, Bulimba Creek Catchment Committee and Mount Gravatt High groundsmen, Justin and
Paul, were on hand to give students tips on best gardening practises and ensure
the day ran smoothly. Bunnings donated organic compost and
water storage crystals to ensure a healthy foundation for
the hundreds of new seedlings planted on the day. State Member for Mansfield Corrine McMillan MP donated a beautiful gift basket. All students who participated on the day received an entry to win, Year 10 student Mel Lay was the lucky winner.
