Student Support Team

Mount Gravatt High has an array of student services and support programs available to all students and their families. Our commitment to nurturing the holistic growth and well-being of all students goes beyond academic excellence. We take pride in providing a safe and supportive environment where students can flourish both academically and personally. To achieve this, we have a dedicated team of professionals who are here to guide and support your students throughout their journey.

Guidance Officers

Guidance Officers (GOs) are teachers with an additional Masters qualification in Guidance and Counselling (registered Counsellors). GOs contribute to the development of our school's comprehensive student support and wellbeing programs, which are responsive to the needs of the school community.

Our GOs provide advice and counselling on educational, behavioural, vocational, personal, social, family, and mental health and wellbeing issues.  Our GOs work directly with students in addition to working with a student's teachers, school support personnel, family, other specialists or external support providers.

At Mount Gravatt High Guidance Officers:

  • Facilitate proactive and preventative practices and initiatives for the holistic development, mental health and wellbeing of students
  • Manage counselling and consulting services for students
  • Provide psycho-educational and other assessments.

Throughout the year, the GOs help students with career decisions, subject selections and with their applications for university and TAFE via the QTAC application process.  GOs provide support to students who require Access Arrangements and Reasonable Adjustments (AARA). By providing reasonable adjustments all students can access all areas of curriculum and assessment.

Our GOs help empower our students to meet challenges and assist in their academic and social development to support them toward being happy, confident and successful learners.

Social Worker

A Social Worker plays a key role in the Student Support Team, working with students and their families to support students' educational, developmental, social and emotional needs. Through individual counselling, group work and referral to other services, she will support students to navigate life's challenges, improve their wellbeing and to do their best at school and in life. A Social Worker is dedicated to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment, ensures that every student has the opportunity to flourish during their time at our school, who can make a significant difference in the lives of our students.

School-Based Youth Health Nurse

At Mount Gravatt High, the well-being of our students is a top priority. To ensure that their health needs are met, we have the assistance of our School-Based Youth Health Nurse who provides health education, support for students with health issues, and serves as a valuable source of information for maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Her presence on campus allows us to address concerns promptly, ensuring that students can focus on their studies without compromising their well-being.

Community Education Counsellor

We firmly believe that collaboration with families and the wider community is integral to a student's success. Our Community Education Counsellor works closely with indigenous students and their families to provide resources and support in navigating various challenges that may arise during their educational journey. Facilitating open communication between school and home, fostering a strong partnership to best support each student's growth and development.

At Mount Gravatt High School, we understand that empowering our students involves providing a nurturing environment that addresses their diverse needs. Our dedicated team of professionals, including guidance officers, a social worker, a school-based youth health nurse, and a community education counsellor, ensures that your child will receive the support they need to thrive academically, emotionally, and socially.

As parents and guardians, your involvement is key to our students' success, and we encourage you to reach out to any of our support staff if you have any questions or concerns. Together, we can create a positive and enriching educational experience for your children at Mount Gravatt High School.
