Students have the opportunity to participate in a range of sports and recreational activities as part of the Mount Gravatt High School curriculum and as an extracurricular activity. The school representative opportunities are available at district, regional, state and national levels interschool sport competitions and external tournaments, which cover a spectrum of interest.
Interschool Sport
Mount Gravatt High School is a member of the South District Sport Association, providing opportunities for students to participate in two competitive sporting seasons: summer and winter. Students have the chance to try out and be selected in various sports during these seasons. Teams who are South District Champions have the opportunity to progress to Met Finals and Gala Days.
Years 7, 8 and 9 play on Tuesday afternoons and Years 10, 11 and 12 on Wednesday afternoons during the Summer and Winter Season.
Sports on offer are: Volleyball, Touch Football, Futsal, Basketball, Cricket, Football and Netball.
Recreational Sport and Electives
Students not wishing to participate in competitive sporting activities (interschool sport) may select an elective with off-site options being at extra cost. Options include: ten pin bowling, mini-golf, ice skating, rock climbing or recreational school-based sport (e.g. basketball, netball, volleyball, soccer, touch football, gym fitness etc)
Inter-house Carnivals
Three major inter-house carnivals are held annually - Swimming, Cross Country and Athletics. Emphasis is placed on student participation and building school spirit. A range of novelty events are included for maximum involvement by students and staff. Participation rates are very high and all students are expected to attend whole day events in the school sporting calendar. These are not optional attendance days.
District and Representative Sport
Mount Gravatt High School membership extends across two distinct sporting districts:
- Mount Gravatt District (12-year-olds)
- South District (13-19-year-olds)
These districts serve as a gateway to representative sporting opportunities within the Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) program. These opportunities include participation in Metropolitan East School Sport and Queensland School Sport. To access these pathways, interested students are nominated by the school to attend district trials.
