The winner of the Public Speaking segment of this year's Lions Youth of the Year competition, was Mount Gravatt High student Mannix Showell. Congratulations to Mannix for this impressive achievement.
On Sunday 20 February, Mount Gravatt High School Leaders, Emad Khan and Mannix Showell and Year 12 student Yingnan Huang, participated in the annual Lions Youth of the Year Competition. This is a prestigious event for young people, which boasts many high-profile Australians among the ranks of former entrants, including a former Prime Minister, a past Premier of Queensland and senators. The program, which is now in its 58th year, is an unequalled opportunity for young people to experience an interview situation and an opportunity to practice their public speaking skills.
The qualities sought from contestants were leadership, personality, sportsmanship, academic attainment and public speaking skills. Mannix gave the audience an insightful explanation as to his thoughts on “What is Success".
We would like to congratulate Emad, Mannix and Yingnan for their willingness and enthusiasm in representing Mount Gravatt High as they joined other students from across the region, to test their public speaking skills.
